Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. You will want to remember it forever with beautiful photos. But how do you choose a photographer that is right for you? Here are 11 questions to ask your wedding photographer before you book

ARE YOU AVAILABLE ON MY DATE?

This is the most important question to ask! Make sure you check your photographer’s availability before you book. It happens more often than you think, you find the perfect photographer only to find out they are already booked on your date!

WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?

There are many different styles of photography. You will want to make sure you choose a photographer whose style matches your own. Do you like candid, natural photos? Or do you prefer posed and formal shots? Maybe you like a mix of both! Some photographers are also willing to take on special requests. Just be sure to ask before you book.

HOW DO YOU WORK ON THE DAY OF THE WEDDING?

Your photographer will be with you for a large portion of your wedding day. You will want to make sure you are comfortable with their presence. Some photographers like to take a more hands-on approach, while others prefer to stay in the background. Think about what will make you feel more comfortable on your big day and choose accordingly.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN YOUR WEDDING PACKAGES?

This is an important question to ask so that there are no surprises later on. Make sure you understand exactly what is included in your photographer’s fees. Are there additional charges for things like engagement photos, albums, or prints? Be sure to get all the details in writing before you book.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN PHOTOGRAPHING WEDDINGS?

If you are looking for an experienced photographer, this is the question to ask. There is no right answer here, some couples prefer a more seasoned pro while others are fine with a newer photographer. Ultimately, you will want to choose someone whose work you love, regardless of their experience level.

HOW MANY WEDDINGS HAVE YOU PHOTOGRAPHED?

This question goes hand in hand with the previous one. Again, there is no right answer. Some photographers only shoot a few weddings each year while others are busy shooting multiple weddings every weekend. Choose someone whose work you love and who you feel confident will be able to capture your big day beautifully.

HAVE YOU PHOTOGRAPHED A WEDDING AT MY VENUE BEFORE?

If you are getting married at a popular wedding venue, this is a great question to ask. Many photographers have shot at your venue before and will know the best spots for photos. They will also be familiar with the lighting and layout of the property. If your photographer has not shot at your venue before, be sure to provide them with a tour so they can plan for the best photo locations.

HOW DO YOU EDIT YOUR PHOTOS?

Editing is an important part of the photographic process. Ask your photographer about their editing style and see if it matches your own. Some couples prefer a more natural look while others like their photos to be heavily edited. Be sure to ask to see some examples of their edited work so you can get an idea of what to expect.

DO YOU HAVE A BACKUP PLAN IN CASE OF EMERGENCIES?

This is an important question to ask to be sure your photographer is prepared for anything. Ask them what their backup plan is in case of inclement weather or other unexpected emergencies. You will want to be confident that your photographer has a plan in place to ensure your photos are still captured beautifully, even if things don’t go according to plan.

WHAT IS YOUR POLICY ON REFUNDS OR RESCHEDULING?

This is an important question to ask in case you need to cancel or reschedule your wedding. Be sure to understand your photographer’s policy on refunds and rescheduling before you book. That way, you will know what to expect should you need to make any changes to your wedding plans.

WHAT IS THE TURNAROUND TIME FOR RECEIVING MY PHOTOS?

This is an important question to ask so that you can plan accordingly. Ask your photographer how long it will take for them to edit and deliver your wedding photos. Most photographers have a turnaround time of 4-6 weeks, but some may be faster or slower. Be sure to ask so that you can plan accordingly and receive your photos in a timely manner.
